Amin Kitabwala:
Mirza Beigh Family is counted among respected Shia families of Jammu and Kashmir who ave contributed in Muharram mourning literature from partition of Bharat. It was Mirza Safdar Beigh of Sonwar Srinagar who in early 19th century was alone charge taker of Syed Yaqoob Sonwar Shrine. Later due to sectarian conflict Safdar Beigh was constraint to migrate. With his son Mirza Mehdi Beigh he migrated to Doulat Abad, Nowpora just 2km from native hometown Sonwar. Mirza Safdar Beigh was known for his strange and prompt technique to control jins. This technique was later acquired by his only son Mirza Mehdi Beigh who started writing Nohas in kashmir. Being first Noha reciter of shia society his nohas (elegies) are still chanted in grand procession of Ashura in summer capital. Mirza Mehdi was first after Marsiya writers who wrote the tragedy of Karbala in Kashmiri Language adopting the style of kashmiri songs, where tragedy was very easy to understand as compared to marsiya. The most remebered elegies written by him include "Aye gul e gulzar Ali Akbaram" ; "Ye chu zuljanaye syed e shohda" ; "wa muhammada gow shaheed Hussain".
People used to throng the Beigh residence at Nowpora during the lifetime of Mehdi Beigh. As people sought enlightenment there. After his demise same was acquired by his elder son popularly known among shia class as Mirza Abdul Ghani Beigh despite his name was different as what people used to call him. Mirza Abdul Ghani Beigh's contribution was too extraordinary. Being 2nd generation noha writer he gained fame, for possessing prompt skill of writting. Abdul Ghani Beigh was always remebered by public figures as when they required poetry for functions. He exaggerated most of the occasion by his poetry and was followed by number of fans. Abdul Ghani's demise left huge number of mourners lamenting.
Soon after the death His elder son or 3rd generation writer aroused from the warm walls of Beigh Residence now called Beigh Bhawan. Namely Manzoor Hussain Beigh also contributed to family legacy extraordinarily. Manzoor Hussain Beigh has written dozens of elegies. He himself chants them in Grand Ashura Procession of Kashmir. Manzoor Hussain remains the central attraction of the procession when he chants with Zuljanah Contingent. The contingent of Zuljanah has remained legacy of Beigh family as mourners have never favored any other chanter of elegies besides them. Manzoor Hussain is residing at ancestral palace at Nowpora lonely.
Mirza Sharafat Hissain Beigh only son of Manzoor Hussain Beigh is 4th generation writer and chanter of Beigh Family. Sharafat Recently settled the debt of contributionto his family legacy.
As all the share holders of Beigh residence have sold their shares, now Sharafat Beigh counts the memories of warmth at Beigh Residence as it used to be before years there. Feeling isolation is indeed an element of their loneliness in Beigh Residence. Sharafat Beigh remained the last progeny who survives in Beigh Residence which used to be center for thousands of people involved with Shia Karbala Tragedy literature.
